9/11/2017 0 Comments MaskMask is a kind of tool used in rituals or dramas to present certain identity.
It also has its function of veil and disguise. In reality, I think it is a kind of state or tendency that people constantly try to electively present edited parts or versions of themselves in order to be perceived in certain ways. So they are simultaneously showing and hiding something. However, this kind of tendency let people easily trapped into stereotypes and care too much about others’ expectation, such as living a stable lifestyle without risks and always staying comfort zones, eager for being normal and tranquil... Wearing a ‘mask’ too much can cause addiction and obstacles for self-interpretation. And it is really hard to get rid of it since it really 'grows' on your face. Because masks are fragile and easy to be discerned by intellects, I use paper, this kind of material to present them. The crimped surface of the paper mask is to imitate the texture of bloodstreams and biotic feature of flesh, presenting the mask is tightly bonded with face. Removing the mask off my face and disposing it basically means a kind of attitude of staying real and never forgetting to live up to my own expectations. I am making space for fully discovering myself and find my directions to pursue. |
