Project 3: Nonhuman Consciousness
Project 2: Antiself
To describe my antiself, I wrote a short piece of writing based on several terms I've been labeled over time- parts of myself I want to release or forgive. I translated these words through a few lines of code to create a visual version of the poem. For me, this form resembles present circumstances moving into the past. It is a self that I am growing away from. It's also about embracing the future, as the method of coding I used to make the shape is new to me, and I've been previously hesitant to learn these tools. The identity of the writing is camouflaged by the color coding, but the key is available to figure out the meaning. Juxtaposing this with a real live photographed gorilla, not camouflaged in any way and representing nature in the same way the coded form represents technology, I also see this as a portrait of a personal split between a true, natural, or inner self, and an external, social media-digitized self.
